THIS MONTH:
The videographer takes us on a tour up Park Avenue, following aÝtrain line that runs underneath the luxury buildings of the Upper East SideÝuntil it rises out of the ground at 96th St. to clatter above the bodegas and projects of East Harlem.

The video raises important questions about gentrification, urban renewal, racism, and the powerful influence ofÝwealth in the U.S. Come watch and bring your own ideas to a discussion of development in Providence.

ARTS DAY AT THE STATE HOUSE
Sponsored by Rhode Island Citizens for the Arts, ARTS DAY AT THE STATE HOUSE is an important opportunity for artists and supporters
of the arts to show their support. Numbers are important, so spread the word, and bring lots of friends. This is a particularly difficult budget year, so your presence is critical.
Performances will take place starting at 3pm, and around 3:30 prior to the start of the legislative session -- Rhode Island legislative leaders will speak about the importance of the arts to the State of Rhode Island.
If you care about the arts in Rhode Island, then be sure that you and everyone you know is there.

MAI'S AMERICA a documentary by Marlo Poras (70 min)

A spunky, mini-skirted daughter of Ho Chi Minh’s revolution leaves cosmopolitan Hanoi on a high school exchange program. Anticipating Hollywood, Mai crash lands in rural Mississippi . . . where her relationships with white Pentecostal and black Baptist host-families, self-proclaimed rednecks, transvestites, and South Vietnamese immigrants challenge her long-held ideas about herself, about freedom, about America and even about Vietnam.
Audience Award: Best Documentary SXSW

BETTER LIFE by Atsuko Kubota (12 min.)

The banal days go by without you realizing it. Vividly colored watercolor integrated with 3D computer animation presents the details of a somewhat unremarkable normal life to discover uncommon beauties in common things.

THE NATURAL HISTORY OF HARRIS AVENUE, Olneyville by Johanna Dery (5 min.)

This film is about the wild flowers along her favorite street in Olneyville.

CELULAR CRIMES by Brett Simon (1 min.)

Cell phones at the movies are BAD luck.
