Olneyville Sound System - What Is True, What Is False

RYAN:
Holy Crap this is good. Digression: When I was a late teen, I used to frequent local Pawn Shops eyeballing the used guitars. One day I saw, hanging from the ceiling, a Gibson EB-3 Bass. The pawn shop was a hole and the bass was beat to crap...but goddamn it just looked like it would sound totally badass. Years later, I saw Von Ryans Express and was amazed to see that someone was actually making an EB-3 sound as good as I had imagined. Enter Dan St. Jacques. Over the years Dan moved to new bands, which brings me to the actual content of the review. This Load Records release may be my favorite OSS record to date. It has the best of what the others have to offer but has more clarity to it and is a really good length. The production is great and super clear. Jon Von Ryan's vocals are still distorto but clear. Adam Autry, one of my favorite drummers ever, sounds excellent on this recording. If you are trying to learn how to play drums, do not get this record. It will send you into deep fits of depression because Adam is so flipping good. For those unfamiliar with OSS: way low fuzz bass, Attention Deficit Disorder drumming and raspy vocals. Get it.

CHRIS:
This record is amazing. Minimal and lacking nothing. Jon Ryan's lyrics are great, like a raving idiot savant. Adam is pure drum genius. The beats on "Life, Quality" makes me freak out. Dan's fuzzy bass grooves are mesmerizing. I adore this record. Essential ProvidenceRock. Landed, Black Sabbath, Thee Hydrogen Terrors and P.I.L fans will love this.
